The payment of a health care provider (individual or organisation) for the services provided. The services may be paid directly by the patient or by a third party payer. In the case of pharmaceutical distribution, wholesalers and pharmacies are remunerated by linear mark-ups, regressive margin schemes or, in the case of pharmacies, a fee-for-service remuneration.
